Today was one of the most spectacular days I have ever had since becoming involved in politics. I a won a lottery ticket to come to the capital to see the big show. I had the best seat! Next to the media. It was particularly meaningful watching the Governor, Attorney General, and Lieutenant Governor use their family bibles to take their oaths of office and then from my vantage point sign the document that confirmed that it occurred. This was so moving for me now that I realize how important signing documents are. But the most important part of that was watching Bob McDonnell pick up this gigantic family Bible for his swearing in, all of his children around him with his wife holding up this heavy book of books. I pray that they put their family tree into that book for generation to come.
After an encouraging and uplifting speech that reminisced about colonial history of great Virginians, Bob McDonnell wove in the speech looking back and looking ahead. I left the link to the speech just click on share this! Many reminders of the history of the 1600's, 1700's, 1800's, and today's soldiers. As the parade passed by the Roger's Rangers were included. My thoughts were Abraham Womack served in the French and Indian War. Perhaps it was my great great great great grandad only documentation and dates to prove that it actually was Abraham Womack of Halifax Virginia are necessary.
Today though I am very proud that my family endured hardships and were willing to take risks to make a good life for all of us Womacks.
As we look at the past, careful scrutiny reveals history as untidy, people are human and make mistakes. Today was a refreshing reminder that we have much to celebrate when we remember our forefathers.
